Gentleness Comes from Jesus’ Peace

Fight the Good Fight

. . . pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, when you made your good confession [in Christ] . . . —1 Timothy 6:11b-12 (NIV)

What things or desires do you pursue? What do you do in your spare time? Do you have a godly vision, or do you pursue your own goals? All you do in faith as a service to Christ is blessed. To attain righteousness, one needs to know with certainty that Jesus is faithful and holds our eternal life in His hands. Flowing from Jesus' faithfulness is a love that helps us endure the difficulties.

How much gentleness did you show the last time you lost your temper? Gentleness comes from our own sense of peace overflowing, knowing Jesus is faithful and the One in control of our days. Your identity in Christ must be built upon the fact that God is faithful — even when the world is crumbling around you. God’s original design was created without confusion, abuse, lying, hate, or death.

God “puts your tears in a bottle” (Psalm 56:8). He knows what causes you to cry. If you want to feel God’s comfort, you must yield to the fact that God is faithful. Period. Any doubt you have about God’s faithfulness is a lie straight from Satan. This is how you fight the good fight of faith: you depend upon His faithfulness, and you faithfully follow Jesus, living in the manner and character of Christ. Endure the lies of Satan by allowing your faith to swallow up his lies; your faith is grounded in God’s holy Truth found in His Word. If your identity is anchored in the faithfulness of Christ, your actions will swallow up the fiery darts that Satan throws your way. Sometimes things must get harder before they get better. In this testing of your faith, God is right there beside you in His Holy Spirit. You can depend on His strength to pull you through.
